I went into this not really knowing what to expect. I haven't read Between Shades of Gray, so I had no idea what to expect from this author. In fact I actually read the one star reviews just to prepare myself for worst case scenario. Well I really didn't need to because this book hooked me from the beginning and didn't let me go. The character's came to life, I felt like I was in the time period watching everything unfold. I've gotten so sick of every novel having a love triangle, and while I was prepared to deal with this between Patrick and Jesse, I'm SO relieved that it didn't turn out to be that way. I LOVE the way the author dealt with it.
I almost wish this was a series simply because I would LOVE to know what happens to Josie. However, I'm sure a sequel just wouldn't have the same feel to it. All in all, definitely a great read.
